“JUNGLE DISCOVERY”
Adventure in the Amazon Basin for 5 Day - 4 nights starting Friday

Day 1

Arrive to Ecuador. Reception at airport and transfer to hotel. Overnight in Quito

Day 2

Breakfast and transfer to airport. We take the domestic flight from Quito to Coca (Puerto Francisco de Orellana) at 09:00am, transfer to the pier of the Hotel “La Misión” and at 09:30am we start to navigate the Napo River down. Following the Napo River we reach Puerto Miranda where we board the “Jungle Discovery”. On board we have lunch at 01:45pm and we start to descend the river Napo and navigate the Yasuní River upstream to the entrance of the Jatuncocha Lake where we arrive at around 05:00pm. On canoes we explore the Jatuncocha Lake for the observation of birds and caimans. Back on board we have dinner and the briefing of the next day.

Day 3

early mornings we go on a bird watching excursion around the Jatuncocha Lake. Back to the “Jungle Discovery” for breakfast, and then we navigate in canoes the Yasuní river upstreams and goes for a walk into the primary forest where the guides explain to us the biodiversity of the region. Again back on board for lunch and some relaxation time. In the afternoon we navigate in small row canoes on a small river until we reach the Tambococha oxbow lake where we can observe a great variety of birds and monkeys of the area. Here we have the opportunity for piranha sport fishing. We are back on board at 5:30pm and start our navigation on the “Jungle Discovery” to the river Santa María, in the Peruvian territory, which we follow upriver to the Secoya community of Santa María, arriving at 06:00am.

Day 4

Today we enjoy a cultural day in the Secoya community. In the morning we walk in the forest together with the Secoya Native guides who explain to us their medicine plants and the local flora and fauna. We return for the lunch on board and have some time to relax. In the afternoon we visit the village and a small museum and learn how the Secoya weave their hammocks and bags out of the palm fiber “chambira”, as well as the “casaba” their typical food made out of the manioc roots and the elaboration of their “mocahuas”, the traditional pottery. At 05:00pm we start again our navigation to the lake system of Lagartococha, up the Napo and Aguarico rivers where we arrive at 06:00am.

Day 5

Very early in the morning, rowing in small canoes, we will explore the Lagartococha Lake, named in Kichwa after the huge black caimans. After breakfast on board of the “Jungle Discovery” we leave for a full day excursion in this lake system, where we walk with the guides in the “várzea” forest, the temporary flooded forest with its varied vegetation and we visit some of the lakes. On an island the cook will prepare us a farewell barbeque and in the afternoon we have time for piranha sport fishing. The night excursion will take us on a search for the famous black caimans.. At 08:00pm we leave the Lagartococha system and navigate back to Puerto Miranda, arriving early in the morning.

Day 6

After breakfast we visit the Kichwa community Puerto Miranda and a typical family house. Short walk in the neighboring forest together witch a local native guide. After lunch on board we start to return to Coca at 01:30pm where we take the domestic flight back to Quito at 05.20 pm. Arrive to Quito and transfer to your hotel.
